Be going to
Cuándo se usa
Be going to habla del futuro que ya está decidido o que se ve venir:
- Planes e intenciones tomados antes de hablar: We are going to move to Valencia in June.
- Predicciones con una prueba delante: Look at those clouds. It is going to rain.
- Algo que está a punto de pasar: Careful, the glass is going to fall.
Cómo se forma
am / is / are + going to + infinitivo: I am going to travel, she is going to travel, they are going to travel.
- Negativa: not detrás del verbo be (I'm not going to travel, he isn't going to travel).
- Interrogativa: be delante del sujeto (Are you going to travel?).
- Cuando el verbo que sigue es go, sale going to go: I am going to go to the dentist. Es correcto, aunque en el habla se suele usar el present continuous: I am going to the dentist.
Going to o will
- Plan ya decidido antes de hablar: going to. I am going to buy a new laptop, I saved the money last month.
- Decisión del momento, promesa u ofrecimiento: will. My laptop is broken? OK, I'll buy a new one.
- Predicción con prueba visible: going to. She is going to have a baby.
- Predicción como opinión (I think, probably): will. I think she will like the present.
Errores frecuentes
- Olvidar el verbo be: I going to call her ❌ → I am going to call her ✅.
- Olvidar el to: We are going travel ❌ → We are going to travel ✅.
- Conjugar el verbo que sigue: He is going to works ❌ → He is going to work ✅.
- Evitar going to go por miedo a repetir: I am going to the dentist tomorrow y I am going to go to the dentist tomorrow son las dos correctas.
